PREVENTION POLICY FOR CHILD SAFETY
PURPOSE
Our purpose for establishing this Prevention Policy for Child Safety is to demonstrate our commitment to the physical, emotional, and spiritual safety and well-being of all of our children, youth, or other disabled individuals. We understand that “abuse” includes but is not limited to physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, and ritual abuse.
POLICY
We pledge to conduct our activities in ways that assure the safety of all of our children and youth members, as well as those working with our children and youth. We will follow reasonable measures in the selection and recruitment of paid or volunteer workers. We will use the following guidelines to implement our policy.
- Minimum Age: Volunteers and staff who will be in charge of children must be at least 18 years old. If under 18, an adult sponsor must be assigned. Adults may not leave children alone with persons not meeting this requirement.
- Background Check: Paid and volunteer workers will undergo a background check.
- Lodging: In all situations adults must room with youth or children in a hotel, cabin, tent, or other similar situation while on Kids for Peace sponsored activities. Adults cannot sleep in the same bed with children or youth unless they are the parent or guardian of that child. An adult should not be alone with any single child at any time that is not in direct relationship to the child.
- Release of Children: Children 11 years of age and younger and must be picked up by a parent or guardian. Emergency cases will be determined on an as needed basis. We will release children to brothers, sisters, or other designated persons with written permission from parents.
- Reporting Abuse: Volunteers and staff who work with children under the age of 18 shall report incidents of child abuse or reasonably suspected cases of abuse, whether allegedly perpetrated by individuals associated with the Kids for Peace or outside of the organization, to the Executive Director. In the event of the Executive Director’s absence or alleged involvement, all allegations shall be reported to the Chairperson of the Board.
